AK7 is a Mexican Duranguense music group. It is also known as El Fenómeno Musical. AK7 plays Duranguense music, a dance rhythm originated from Durango State, Mexico. They gained popularity with songs like 'La llamada', 'Dígale' and 'Hotel de carretera'. AK7 is a pseudonym derived from a wordplay from the group that gave it origin, the K being from a previous group. The 7 corresponds to the number of its members, currently eight.
La Autoridad de la Sierra originated from a small dissident group that left Durango leaders K-Paz de la Sierra. The former K-Paz songwriter and arranger, Arturo Palomar, originally from Guadalajara, along with some other key members of the band, decided to leave one of the most successful groups of the genre and start anew in October 2004. Based in Chicago's Durango center, Palomar and his cohorts wasted no time forming a group, recording and releasing their debut album just a few months later, in February 2005.
