AK7 is a Mexican Duranguense music group. It is also known as The Musical Phenomenon. Ak7 plays duranguense music, a danceable rhythm originating from the state of Durango, Mexico. It gained popularity with songs like "The Call", "Tell Him" and "Roadside Hotel". AK7 is a pseudonym derived from a play on words from the group that gave it origin, took the K. The A comes from before, exactly before or prior to that original group. 7 corresponds to the number of its members, which are currently eight.
The Authority of the Sierra was born from a small dissident group that left the Duranguense leaders K-Paz de la Sierra. Former K-Paz songwriter and arranger, Guadalajara native Arturo Palomar, along with some other key bandmates, decided in October 2004 to walk away from one of the genre's most successful groups and start anew. Based in Chicago's Duranguense heart, Palomar and his cohorts wasted no time assembling a group, recording and releasing their debut album just a few months later, in February 2005.
