AK7 is a Mexican duranguense music group. It is also known as The Musical Phenomenon. Ak7 plays duranguense music, a danceable rhythm that originated in the state of Durango, Mexico. It gained popularity with songs like "The Call", "Tell Her" and "Highway Motel". AK7 is a pseudonym derived from a play on words from the group that gave it origin, took the K. The A comes from before, precisely before or prior to that original group. The 7 corresponds to the number of its members, who currently are eight.

The Authority of the Sierra arose from a small dissident group who left the duranguense leaders K-Paz de la Sierra. K-Paz's former composer and arranger, Arturo Palomar, originally from Guadalajara, along with some other key bandmates, decided in October 2004 to distance themselves from one of the most successful groups in the genre and start over. Based in Chicago's duranguense center, Palomar and his cohorts wasted no time in assembling a group, recording and releasing their debut album just a few months later, in February 2005.
