Paquita la del Barrio, whose real name is Francisca Viveros Barradas, became a public figure when she moved from Veracruz to Mexico City in 1970. Her feminist music and aggressive lyrics against machismo won over followers across the country. Despite her early records not selling well, she became one of the most prominent local personalities. Over time, she managed to appear on the charts and over the next four decades attracted an audience in Mexico, South and Central America, as well as Spain.
