AK7 is a Mexican Duranguense music group. Also known as The Musical Phenomenon. AK7 performs Duranguense music, a dance rhythm originated in the State of Durango, Mexico. It became popular with songs like "La llamada", "Dígale" and "Hotel de carretera". AK7 is a pseudonym derived from a play on words from the group that gave it origin, took the K. The A comes from before, precisely before or prior to that original group. The 7 corresponds to the number of its members, who are currently eight.

La Autoridad de la Sierra was born from a small dissident group that left the Duranguense leaders K-Paz de la Sierra. The former composer and arranger of K-Paz, Arturo Palomar, originally from Guadalajara, along with some other key bandmates, decided in October 2004 to walk away from one of the most successful groups of the genre and start over. Based in the Duranguense center of Chicago, Palomar and his cohorts wasted no time in putting together a group, recording and releasing their debut album just a few months later, in February 2005.
