Ismael Ruiz Hernández, commonly known as Maelo Ruiz, began his professional career as the lead singer of Pedro Conga and his International Orchestra. In the seven years he was under Ruiz's management, he recorded four albums, including the hit "Don't Take Off Your Clothes", which sold over 50,000 units. Salsa favorites such as "I Want to Return", "If You Knew" and "You Deny Me So Much Love" earned Ruiz gold records in Colombia and Puerto Rico, but most importantly, recognition worldwide from salsa listeners.
