Ismael Ruiz Hernández, commonly known as Maelo Ruiz, started his professional career as the lead singer of Pedro Conga and his International Orchestra. During the seven years he was under Ruiz's direction, he recorded four records, including the hit "Don't take off your clothes", which sold more than 50,000 units. Salsa favorites like "I Want to Return", "If You Knew" and "You Deny Me So Much Love" earned Ruiz gold records in Colombia and Puerto Rico, but most importantly, recognition from salsa listeners worldwide.
