Ismael Ruiz Hernandez, commonly known as Maelo Ruiz, began his professional career as the lead singer of Pedro Conga and his Internacional Orchestra. In the seven years that he was under Ruiz's direction, he recorded four albums, including the hit "No te quites la ropa", which sold over 50,000 units. Salsa favorites like "Quiero Volver", "Si Supieras" and "Me Niegas Tanto Amor" earned Ruiz gold records in Colombia and Puerto Rico, but most importantly, recognition all over the world from salsa listeners.
