Gerardo Coronel, a singer-songwriter of corridos and an exponent of the alternate movement, made his debut at 14 with the song "El Guerrero". He is recognized for composing the successful corrido "La Tacoma", performed by artists such as Alfredo "El Komander" Ríos, Julián Mercado, and El Bebeto. After creating "El Guerrero", he joined a local band in Sinaloa, but chose to go solo after two years.
